As a Center for Clinical and Translational Science, The Rockefeller University Hospital is funded by the National Center for Accelerating Translational Science, a branch of the National Institutes of Health. Currently, the Hospital has 20 inpatient beds for clinical research, and a newly constructed outpatient research center that can accommodate more than 8,000 patient visits per year.

The Hospital is staffed 24 hours a day with a professional medical and nursing staff and has departments devoted to bionutrition, social work, and art and recreation. In addition, it has a radiology suite as well as its own research pharmacy. A staff Hospitalist and on-call physicians provide additional medical support to the clinical research teams.
