Brief Summary of Protocol:
Due to advances in therapy, 5-year survival rates for childhood cancer now pass 80%. Survivors, however, face an increased lifelong risk of many different treatment-related complications including problems controlling their insulin levels, and diabetes mellitus. Abdominal and total body irradiation are possibly involved in these complications, but how this might happen is poorly understood. The best methods to detect these complications also remain unknown. Recent evidence has suggested that abnormalities of adipose tissue (fat) may play an important role in these metabolic complications in childhood cancer survivors. This study seeks to find out whether fat exposed to radiation is changed when compared to fat that has never been exposed to radiation and if these changes may be linked to various metabolic diseases. We are also interested to see if these changes in fat can be used to predict complications before they occur.

Detailed Description of Protocol:
Participation includes: • 1 visit to The Rockefeller University • Blood draw • Fat biopsy

You may be eligible to enter this study:

You may be eligible if you: • Are at least 18 years of age • Had a history of childhood cancer (diagnosed < 25 years old) • Are at least 2 years post completion of cancer-directed therapy
