Brief Summary of Protocol:
Our laboratory is studying whether genes may be related to getting certain infections. Appendicitis is a painful swelling and infection of the appendix. The appendix is a fingerlike pouch attached to the large intestine and located in the lower right area of the abdomen. The reason for doing this research study is to identify whether some genes cause a tendency to develop appendicitis.

Detailed Description of Protocol:
We are asking you to take part in this research study because you or a family member had an appendix removed due to appendicitis.

What specifically makes a person eligible for the study?
You may be eligible to enter this study:

- You and a family member had appendicitis and an appendectomy before the age of 19
